Woody Langford, LL.B.
Woody was born on February 24, 1945 and raised on
a farm 5 miles north of Russell, Manitoba.
He attended school in Russell, Manitoba and
graduated from Major Pratt Collegiate in June, 1963.
He farmed at home and worked in Russell,
Vancouver, and Calgary until 1966, when he attended the University of Calgary,
graduating with an Honours Degree in Geology in 1970.
Woody worked in the oil business in Calgary until
returning to Manitoba in 1972.
Woody worked in manufacturing and retail sales,
finally returning to University of Manitoba, where he received his Bachelor of
Laws degree. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in September, 1980.
Woody moved to Birtle, Manitoba in November, 1980
and practiced as an associate lawyer with M.D. Butcher and Associates until
July, 1992.
Woody took a sabbatical of 3 years, returning to
law in 1995 when he opened the Langford Law Office. He practiced as a sole
practitioner until January 2003 when he joined Sims & Company.
During his career, Woody has worked with the
Waywayseecappo First Nation as legal advisor from 1996, where he was involved
with land claims, the Justice Committee, and worked on a "healing
strategy" as well as providing general legal advice to the chief and
council of the First Nation Community. Woody presently serves on the Board of
Directors of the Waywayseecappo Healing and Wellness Committee Inc.
Woody says "I try to enjoy life everyday and
to get out of bed with a smile on my face."
