Our Firm
Sims & Company is made up of
several law offices with long traditions in their
respective communities which have been brought
together into a single firm under the leadership
of
Norman
H. Sims, Q.C.
Norman H. Sims, Q.C. and his wife, Elizabeth J. Sims
originally acquired the Minnedosa
office of R. Dale Brawn
in 1983. This practice had a long tradition in
Minnedosa, being the successor firm to Burgess
& James, which became Ferguson, Burgess &
James, and eventually Allan F. James, Q.C..
Mr. James, Q.C., sold his practice to R. Dale Brawn in
1978, when he was appointed a Provincial Court (Criminal
Division) Judge.
In 1994, Norman
and Elizabeth Sims acquired the Shoal Lake
office of Morrison D.
Butcher, Q.C., who was successor to the George
Lauman, Q.C. firm and the R. Dale Brawn law office in
Shoal Lake, which he had combined.
In October, 1994,
Elizabeth Sims left the firm to become District
Registrar of the Neepawa Land Titles Office.
In 1996, Norman
acquired the Birtle office of Morrison D. Butcher, Q.C., who was successor
to the firms of Pratt & Lauman.
In 2002, Norman acquired the Russell
office and the Rossburn
Office of Morrison D. Butcher, Q.C., who was successor
to the Jack Wilson law office. This brought
Norman closer to realizing his dream of
establishing a firm centered on Hwy. No.16 and
covering the area south of the Riding
Mountain National Park,
stretching from the Neepawa area in the east to the Manitoba/Saskatchewan
border in the west.
